The core work of Device Patent LLC utilizes domestic and international patent filings to protect the novel work of our clients. However, much of Brian's time is spent advising clients on good business start-up practices for advancing their products to commercialization. As a Registered U.S. patent agent, Brian drafts and prosecutes patents in the U.S. patent office in preparation for license or sale or for building a strong patent portfolio. He can also assist with patentability opinions, identifying the patent white space, IP strategic planning, and with performing IP due diligence on technology in purchase or licensing transactions. Freedom-to-operate opinions are provided when working in tandem with counsel. Device Patent also offers an array of engineering services including innovating novel designs in view of the prior art, and creating 3D CAD models, prototypes, and prints. Device Patent currently oversees over 200 matters from over 50 different clients.

 Provided the sole design and engineering services to the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial Pilates exercise equipment.  Earned multiple US and foreign patents with more pending on this technology. Responsible for design & development of the Pilates Allegro (http://www.pilates.com/BBAPP/V/store/reformers/allegro-pilates-reformer.html). Best selling commercial reformer in the world and used in fitness franchises including Bally’s Fitness and by several professional sports teams. Tasks included 3D CAD (Solidworks) and FEA to model designs and engineering drawings. Design parts manufactured of metal, wood, and plastics. Successfully facilitated several long distance relationships with vendors in the US and Taiwan and negotiated competitive quotes, and manufacture/delivery of parts utilizing metal extrusion, plastic injection, rapid prototyping, anodizing, and metal and wood CNC machining and sheet metal bending.

Prepared engineering drawings, ECNs, technical file, 510K, FMEA, and project timelines. Co-developed product testing parameters and evaluation of results. Organized cadaver lab for surgeon prototype testing. Led design review meetings and meetings with surgeon development team.  Directed feasibility study of a spinal rodding system. Assisted development of several company projects through 3D CAD modeling, preparation of prints including GD&T, performing product testing, searching literature, FEA, analyzing data, and preparing test reports.
