HDMI - Video/AudioLead engineer for the HDMI Repeater and HDMI Matrix Switch board product lines. Repeater boards include multiple generations of 8in/2out, 4in/1out and 1in/1out boards. Matrix boards include multiple generations of 8in/8out and 16in/16out boards. Work includes board architecture design, embedded control software, documentation, interoperability testing, and compliance testing of these product lines. Embedded software designed to run on bare metal (Cortex-M3 micros), Free RTOS, or Linux. These boards are available for use in customer products such as AVRs, PreAmps, and Soundbars. Over 30+ designs and/or variations of Repeaters completed. Throughout multiple generations of HDMI specifications, maintained consistent host interface to minimize impact of integrating new technology into customer products. Authored the Host API/User Manual and Interoperability documents. Provided support to customers and assisted in troubleshooting problems encountered in the field.Outside of the HDMI work, worked on the AV Control subsystem in AVR class products that conducted the real-time operations of the AVR interfacing with the audio subsystem, HDMI subsystem, and various peripherals running under Linux.

High Definition TVOne of three system architects for the original digital high definition television software design. Defined requirements and design of Device Management and Connection Subsystem written in C++ running in an embedded environment on the VxWorks OS. Involved in every aspect of development from conception, design, coding, debug, and integration testing. Worked with subcontractor on 1394 network stack and implemented code for control of audio video equipment (DVCRs, AVDiscs, Tuners, Amps). Helped define requirements and design of User Interface and NetCommand™ device control. Also worked on design and implementation of CableCARD™ for the TV.

Color Television Cameras for Space Station Robotic ArmInvolved in many aspects of camera development. Detailed work in conceptual design, embedded controller design that controlled the camera (both hardware and flight software), design of test hardware and software, development of camera test procedures from electrical integration to system test. Embedded hardware centered on an 8051 microcontroller and two FPGAs for support logic. Developed all the embedded flight software written in C to perform zoom lens control, pan/tilt unit control, command and telemetry interface, and exposure control. Also participated in camera acceptance testing. Work was performed under contract from Spar Aerospace of Canada.Star Tracker CamerasDesigned control and timing logic for monochrome CCD camera used to image star fields for navigation and orientation of spacecraft for low earth orbit and planetary missions. Logic provided all camera timing functions for CCD operation, limited image processing, and output of imagery to the host. Also included control logic for host control and telemetry functions. Designs placed into 3 FPGAs. Also developed early version of the test software. Star Tracker cameras were flown on all the late 90’s missions to Mars and the StarDust mission.LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) InstrumentDeveloped real time flight software for an embedded processor for the imaging laser range finder. Designed embedded system controller board. Controller design incorporated much of the digital logic into two Actel field programmable gate arrays (FPGA). System controller interfaces with all other modules including the camera, image intensifier, range receiver, laser, and filter wheel. Responsible for integrating system controller with all other modules and integration with test equipment. Supported qualification testing from beginning to delivery of engineering model and 2 flight units to customer. Directed development of test equipment hardware and software.
