Hi, Recently, I got to fulfil a career ambition and help create the world’s largest employee owned logistics business. The Cardinal Partnership unites our two cherished brands of Cardinal Global Logistics and Far Logistics. Since co-founding Cardinal Maritime in 1998, I have come to the belief that the most effective way to grow a business, is by sharing it. And, undoubtedly, the more we have shared along the way, the more we have gained. This belief, started its life when I came to the realisation that the best way to hold on to superbly talented people, and inspire and motivate their greatness, was to give them something more than a decent salary and OTE. Ownership not only locks in amazing people, but is massively helpful to talent acquisition. It also creates an environment where, as partners, we work collaboratively, without self interest, and in the joy of knowing our efforts and rewards are mutually beneficial. ‘There is no delight in owning something unshared’. Giving something valuable and receiving something incredible is an equation that has worked so well for me. Giving really does open the door for receiving. I am now experimenting with this same philosophy in other industries and, guess what, the same applies! It seems that those people that want something more from their lives and careers are hugely motivated by ownership. Since starting my first business in 1998 with two amazing Co-founders, I have had the pleasure and joy in seeing our dream become a reality. Our reach as the Cardinal Partnership now extends across Europe, Africa, The Indian Sub-Continent, Asia and Australasia; making up over 45 offices. But, honestly, seeing any of my colleagues realise their own ambition and potential, whether that be through our employee ownership model or as equity partners, is the buzz that gets me going everyday. I get to work with the most amazing people, because we are brilliant at spotting them, retaining them and helping them achieve their true potential in a place we call home.
