Led a privately-held biotechnology company which invented, patented and commercially developed cell culture technologies enabling novel epithelial tissue models. Business model involves research alliances and licensing to deliver research products and services, and partnering with clinical-stage companies and universities creating advanced cell therapies.

Served as UVa's first EIR. Involved in the evaluation of UVa's biomedical research portfolio for commercial potential, acted as an advisor to faculty founders on how to position technology toward a successful commercial path, and launched two biotech start-ups (Propagenix Inc. and Neoantigenics Inc.). Served as a board director for UVA Licensing & Ventures Group from 2012-2018.

Direct line management of a 420 person, $80M annual operating budget at 3 geographic sites. Ran profitable enterprise while simultaneously re-engineering the technical, marketing and corporate development functions of the organization.
