In September of 2011, Walmart announced a major corporate initiative to empower women throughout their supply chain – the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) initiative. A major component of their public commitment is to double their sourcing from women-owned businesses for their international markets. In the interest of providing transparency and soliciting feedback on the program, they established an external advisory council of experts to help shape this effort in order to brainstorm solutions to some of the most pressing challenges that affect women-owned suppliers. Issues include finding and onboarding new women-owned businesses, access to finance, building business capabilities, and exporting to new markets.

Hired as a global entrepreneurship expert by Goldman Sachs to select the top 10% of the graduates in their 10,000 Women project which was a five year, $100 million project to give 10,000 women SME entrepreneurs an entrepreneurship diploma from top tier universities in 30+ countries. Top international business schools provided the classroom education. I was responsible to determine how to select the top 10% of the women in the program and to then recruit and engage local resources such as networking, strategy, consulting, mentoring services as well as helping them get financing and integrated into global supply chains.
