CheckUps is a nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the health of mothers and their families in medically underserved communities. We are currently working to improve access to health services, diagnostics, education, and medication in rural Kenya and South Sudan.

Getaround is an online car-sharing service that connects drivers who need to reserve cars with car owners who share their cars. I led the global Engineering and IT teams.

Built Bluevine's initial US Engineering team and led the team in building Bluevine's banking product to support the strategic change from small business lending to small business banking.• Led recruiting efforts to build out the US Engineering team.• Worked closely with the Banking Product team and the TLV-based Engineering team to create a full-featured banking product that was well-accepted in the market.• Drove US efforts in building a PPP-lending product as an urgent response to Covid.• Provided technical program management for high-stakes replacement of BlueVine's "sponsor" bank• Led the Corp site engineering team and helped to grow it from 1 to 3 engineers.• Led the US IT team and helped to grow it from 1 to 5 people.• Helped recruiting for product management, product marketing, and in-house recruiting positions.

Led Engineering of systems used to drive growth across Facebook's products; specifically, common metrics tracking (e.g., DAU/MAU, Time Spent), experimentation platform, market intelligence (Onavo), and surveys. Also provided ongoing guidance to adjacent and partner teams.• Brought visibility and organizational alignment to engineering efforts by initiating the first roadmap processes, lobbying for and helping create a partner PM organization, and then working with PM to significantly improve product planning and delivery every quarter. • Helped teams with strained relationships work together towards common goals. • Effectively advocated for better engineering practices - Move fast, but don’t break things.• Heavily involved in Engineering recruiting - top 10% of recruiters in the last 6-month period. • Directly managed experimentation team for ~6 months (while looking for a new manager) and i18n team for ~5 months (covering for a manager on maternity leave).

Led Engineering for Google for Work’s Enterprise Search (Cloud Search), eDiscovery (Vault), and Message Security products. Upgraded leadership team and built up engineering teams. Improved planning, communication, focus, and quality practices in distributed team of ~100 managers, software engineers, and test engineers. Altogether, the products contributed ~$250M/year to Google Apps.• Led revamp of Google Search Appliance to search across any data sources in businesses of any size. This work led to the product being the top-placed Enterprise Search product in the Gartner magic quadrant with sales ~$120M/year.• Oversaw development of next generation cloud-based enterprise search & assist product, now called Google Custom Search (through Google “dogfood” and Trusted Tester releases).• Maintained ~$100M/year Postini Message Security and eDiscovery products while overseeing the development of features and tools to transition customers to Google Apps.• Led development of Google Vault eDiscovery offering from prototype to launched product contributing ~$50M / year to Apps.

Led Engineering for first comprehensive Google Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform supporting Sales, Marketing, and Support. Rationalized organization and brought planning and focus to a distributed team of ~100 managers and software engineers. The platform provided Sales revenue lift of $1B+/year and reduced headcount needs by many thousands. Received Operating Committee (OC) award for custom order approval product.• Oversaw development of custom Sales CRM solution that included dashboards, customer and opportunity management, targets, goal tracking, etc. Providing this functionality from salespeople up to execs required massive restructuring of data feeds, processes, and tools.• Oversaw development of customer master, marketing analytics, and marketing applications that increased revenue by at least several hundred thousand dollars/year.• Addressed severe performance issues that had prevented the adoption of new Support application used by ~8500 Googlers to process ~10M tickets/month.• Led development of new order approval system used for $10s of billions in orders/year while maintaining the legacy system.

Transformed 50+ person engineering team after a period where all deployments were failing due to product issues. Got team on track and quickly brought the number of referenceable customers from 0 to 10 - a key factor in subsequent acquisition by Emptoris in March 2006. Further performance, quality, and enhancement work enabled fastest sales and growth in Contract Management space (~$26M run rate, ~40% growth).• Clarified roles and responsibilities for onshore and offshore engineering teams and focused teams on most pressing issues.• Created forums and tools to give company visibility and input into engineering efforts.• Published first meaningful performance benchmarks.• Added key differentiating ability to bring external contracts into diCarta system.• Provided leadership and motivation for team through tough post-acquisition period.• Drove customer satisfaction initiatives in response to issues identified only after the merger: “I have never worked with an Engineering VP so customer focused, so committed and with such integrity as you”, Director, Emptoris Customer Support.

Only person to hold VPE positions in both of Epiphany’s product groups: Marketing Products (>$60M annual revenue) and Operational CRM (>$12M annual revenue). Led response to quality and support crisis in Campaign Management product by providing direct leadership for critical accounts, overhauling quality assurance organization, and helping develop effective escalation and patch processes. Led CRM platform group through first production-ready releases. Developed release tracking reports and metrics used across products. Led recruiting efforts across Engineering, landing 15 top managers and engineers in 6 months.• Drove initiatives that dramatically improved product quality and customer satisfaction.• Led recruiting efforts across all development, landing 15 top managers and engineers in 6 months. Managed 3 direct reports who rose to become direct reports to the SVP.

Developed engineering team with alpha-level offering for scheduling within small service businesses into a disciplined, productive, fully-staffed team that delivered customized solutions to five enterprise clients, including two global 500 clients.• Added engineering management structure, QA team, and software processes that dramatically improved productivity and product quality. Led recruiting efforts that added 15 engineers while removing underperformers. Took over services engineering team. Managed European development partner and Indian outsource partner.• Transitioned offering from a point solution to a licensed, customizable J2EE enterprise product. This required a complete re-architecture of application code from monolithic and proprietary ATG/JHTML to a customizable and application server independent JSP/Struts framework, and the creation of an extensibility architecture.• Initiated an effective product roadmap process with Marketing.

Built passionate culture based on teamwork and collaboration that produced extraordinary results. The team’s commitment, coupled with appropriate processes and discipline, allowed Brio to quickly develop and launch a string of substantive competitive releases as the product evolved from the desktop to the Web. The releases were instrumental in growing Brio from a small start-up to a $100M+ / year public company.

Worked in a three-person team that added full OLE Automation and VBA support to PowerPoint. Developed the initial Object Model interface and worked with others in MS Office to develop common Object Model standards. Developed complete C++ programmability interface.

Member of small team developing platform for distributed object-oriented applications. Presented ideas and motivation for Patriot architecture to Engineering and Marketing. Designed and implemented software in C for the Data Interpretation System (DIS) that allowed clients of the distributed file service to cache data locally for dramatically improved performance.

Completed several projects in C, shell, sed, and awk while working in the Processor Products and UNIX development groups. All projects completed on time and met or exceeded requirements.

Selected as a member of the GTE Engineering Associate Development Program for fast-track engineering management training. Succeeded in three separate business environments.
