Working in BD, I am continually energized by the variety of opportunities there are to deliver something of value, whatever a group or person's needs might be. One of my favorite things is when a new idea for a project pops into my head at night, and I'm racing through all the ways that it will be useful to someone. For me, that's what makes it most fun getting into the office the next morning.I excel in three key areas of BD. Each complements one another: Relationships, Strategy, and Analysis. I love to build a rapport with Partners because it helps me understand what they find most engaging about their practice, and how I can best improve the tools and information at their disposal. Having these great working relationships makes it that much more fun to collaborate on how an initiative will be a win for the Firm. It also means that I can pick up on the nuances of a Partner's or group's practice that much faster. The most effective strategies benefit from strong relationships, and both are critical to any BD group. Figuring out how to best approach a client presentation or tailor a profile for a specific Partner is something I love doing because its both analytical and creative in nature. Refining deliverables like these and seeing them grow into cohesive narratives is also extremely rewarding. Still, you can’t provide insight without solid data or research, and knowing how to analyze and present it.Data and market analysis is undeniably the foundation on which my growth in BD has been built. Gleaning information from data that's not readily apparent is yet another part of this career that I find satisfying. Identifying trends and uncovering the 'big picture' in different industries and regions is critical to driving successful, proactive strategies, and it helps Partners gain new insight, and ultimately, new business.
