Sales Education Representative (Ser)Medtronic Spinal & Biologics 2007 - 2008Hired by Kyphon, a couple months before the Medtronic acquisition, into the third cohort of the Sales Education Representative (SER) Program. The purpose of the program was to provide a year of sales training, with the first six months in-house assisting the sales training team and the second six months traveling on a full-time basis providing case coverage support. I acted as lead sales trainer for two initial training classes and provided coverage for over 100 cases in 23 territories across the US. I was then promoted to a spine consultant role and relocated to Montana to cover MT and WY. I’m extremely grateful to the Kyphon leadership who developed and implemented the program, and those that continued the program at Medtronic, as it provided a pathway for Junior Military Officers (JMOs) to transition out of the military directly into medical device sales. The training we received allowed us to hit the ground running once we entered into our territory--and the retention rate of SER graduates far exceeded that of other sales representatives. I highly recommend the adoption/implementation of a JMO transition program. -
