Manager and Sr. Staff Consultant developed, implemented and managed the OSP Damage Prevention and Recovery program related to the outside plant network. Responsibilities included establishing processes and procedures to be followed by Operations, Engineering and support staff focused on prevention of man-made facility damages and increased network reliability. Management of the program involved coordination with multiple functional groups and gathering information related to every event that occurred, assessing liability, calculating damages, filing claims and managing those claims through settlement. Root cause analysis and best practices were developed on those events not attributable to a 3rd party. Duties also included serving as company representative on national forums, including leadership positions. Other management functions during this timeframe included negotiating 3rd party relocation reimbursement agreements, review of as-built documentation for 3rd party conflicts prior to planned work, maintenance of the geographic mapping database and coordination with One-Call agencies.

OSP Engineer performing feasibility studies, selection of routes for the installation of new cable, and the preparation of construction packages for the outside contractors who installed new facilities for MCI. Then, promoted to Lead Engineer in Relocation and Upgrades group, supervising project engineers and construction managers maintaining MCI's existing fiber optic network. This work involved 3rd party requests and highway relocations, along with immediate response to and support for network outages due to fiber cuts. Duties required consideration of other utilities in the area of MCI’s proposed new construction, consideration of safe practices and procedures for the contractors to follow when installing new MCI facilities, and incorporating the relevant statutes, regulations and industry standards regarding excavation practices, including excavation in the vicinity of underground utilities, into the construction drawings and project specifications.
