My Dad died at the age of 57. He left behind my Mom and my 8 brothers and sisters. The youngest was my brother who was only 10 years old. Needless to say, my Dad's death was not part of my game plan. Yet at age 23, and having just started my career, I was on my own trying to make a life without the man I always went to for advice.Growing up with 11 people in the house money was always an issue which inspired my determination to provide financial security for my family. So I got into sales working for US Healthcare. After 4 years working for a great sales organization I started my own employee benefits brokerage firm called The Tarpey Group. Ironically, the business took off with some big clients that believed in me and my team. However, after the best year in the companies short history, I was doing well but was unfulfilled. In June of 2002, I was at a Million Dollar Round Table Association (MDRT) Annual Meeting and a speaker made the following statement, "If you don't know the 'why' behind your work you will never truly be fulfilled." That statement changed my focus from generating revenue to making a difference. Now, every employer and their employees we serve can count on Tarpey Group to deliver when they need it most.
