Agile Product Manager - E-Reader DevicesKobo Inc. May 2012 - Jan 2013Toronto, Canada AreaPRODUCE• Developed Kobo Glo and Mini e-readers hardware and software and launched in 4 months.• 10 software deliveries in 8 monthsBeing the Product Owner of eReaders and Kobo desktop was one of the best experiences of my life. While still growing out of the chaos of a startup it is filled with many bright and talented people. I am proud to be part of the team that developed and launched the Kobo Glo and Kobo Mini to the global market in a span of 4 months.__ORGANIZE• Groomed and prioritized the backlog as a team and garnered their buy in. • Reduced release points from ~4 months to 2-3 weeks.I found it rewarding to use my corporate experience to bring some order to Kobo to reign in and harness all the creative energy that oozes out. While working with the development, testing and user experience teams we were able to carve out the necessary features and prioritize the backlog effectively. With the overall framework properly planned we brought our release points from ~4 months down to 2-3 weeks between regional launches. In the end there were 10 software updates over a span of 8 months across 3 hardware products.__COMMUNICATE AND OPTIMIZE• Constant cross-team communication resulting in reduction in support calls by more than 50% • Engage multi-discipline teams to align with product line roadmap and vision Communication was lacking when I first joined. I found it necessary to break out individual teams for smaller discussions. Having a daily informal SCRUM with Tier 3 and Executive customer care enabled us to quickly identify the key issues that plagued the products. With some development effort we were able to simplify and stabilize the product lines to see a reduction in support calls by more than 50%. The meetings also helped to align and solidify marketing, training and support team planning.Find out more about the Kobo products that we produced with the links below. -
