About Brian Unrau

In addition to being the President of renewable energy developer, VCT Group, Brian is the President of Community Energy Development Co-operative Ltd (CED Co-op), a position he has held since the founding of the organization in 2012. In this time, he has led CED Co-op through the origination and construction of a portfolio of solar projects exceeding $45 million in value. Achieving this has included taking CED Co-op through the process of becoming a public corporation, the first co-op in Canada to achieve this status. CED Co-op has funded its portfolio by raising over $20 million in investments from its 750 members, qualifying its securities for RRSP, RRIF and TFSA investments through the receipting of an Offering Statement by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. CED Co-op has also secured debt financing from institutional lenders for funding the balance of the portfolio. The current portfolio of solar projects is expected to produce over 250 million kWh of clean energy over the next 20 years, and CED Co-op continues to look for more opportunities to generate green power.

    VCT Group, formerly Vigor Clean Tech, is a renewable energy system developer that helps people meet their investment goals while making a positive environmental impact. Over the past ten years we have originated and developed a portfolio of over 200 solar PV systems ranging in size from 4kW to over 750kW. These installations include different types of rooftop and ground mounted systems including dual axis tracking technologies and carports. In partnership with our customers, the systems under our management produce more than 20 million kWh of clean energy on an annual basis, reducing carbon emissions by 3,000 tonnes each year. While much of our construction has focused on financial and environmental impacts, we also maximize the positive aesthetic impacts of solar PV, and looking forward, we are extending our solar expertise into developing micro-grid, battery storage and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
