During my time at the VU I was driving people who were in need of a chauffeur. This could mean business people who needed to work while traveling. Or people who were not able to drive due to injuries. It was an interesting job becease I met some very interesting people who worked at different levels and diffent line of job. From directors of Oil and Gas companies till veterinarians.

At this traineeship we had to work in pairs and our research for this traineeship was expanding current business activities. Martin Schilder is one of the biggest car dealers in the province of Noord-Holland and their activities included: sales, maintenance, renting, repairs, marketing, sponsoring, financial support. We were looking if we could expand these activities with ready to fit bodywork for business vans. This includes installing of tailgates, hydraulic cranes and installing other bodywork than standard. We made the whole implementation plan: from schooling people, buying parts, competition analysis, until adaption for the building. In our plan this activity would be making profit within 2 years. But unfortunately due to the beginning of the crisis in 2009 the board of directors were not willing to invest in this opportunity.

With my traineeship at Martin Schilder Haarlem I did research in workplace efficiency. Their workplace was fitted with 30 people who were divided in 6 different groups working on 5 different brands. (VW, Audi, Skoda, SEAT and VW business vans). Due to the complexity of the tasks it was very interesting and a challange to see if there could be made a significant change that could boost the workplace efficiency. Because this would not only be beneficial for the company itself, improvement of efficiency would lead to better turnover, but also would be beneficial for their clients, less work on their car would mean lower costs for repair and maintenance. By conducting a MMO I was able to improve their workplace efficiency with 15%. The biggest change was made at the transition between the workplace and the warehouse. By chancing the process of providing the engineers with parts, the company was able to reduce the average waiting time from the engineers with 8 á 9 percent.
