The Tax Commission is tasked with implementing the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe’s Tax Code with integrity, efficiency, and consistency. The Pyramid Lake Tax Commission consists of five appointed TaxCommissioners who serve three-year staggered terms. The Tax Commission is vested with powers to adopt rules and regulations necessary to implement the Pyramid Lake Tribal Tax Code, recommend to Tribal Council taxes to be levied, oversee and appoint Tax staff, to adhere to all procedures and rules and regulations of the Tax Code.

As the Controller, I worked closely with the General Manager to start up the cannabis retails stores. I was tasked with developing the initial capital budgets and operating budgets; successfully worked with the Colony Enterprise Authority to secure capital funding; project management of construction and renovation projects at two retail locations; wrote various internal control policies and procedures: inventory management, cash management, retail operations, and financial management; procurement of all sales and accounting software and hardware for the cannabis retail operations; I prepared all the monthly financial statements and presented to the Three Nations Management Board of Directors and Colony Enterprise Authority Board; oversaw all Human Resources functions; and, prepared all financial and inventory compliance reports.

Next, I became a client service representative-answering the telephone and answering clients' questions, assisting walk-in clients, logging in samples into LIMs, assisting in the collections process, and general office duties. Finally, I had to opportunity to work in laboratory and help the laboratory technicians with various analyses.
