Currently the Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Norfolk County Council (May 2021-current). Member for the Eaton Division in Norwich since May 2013. Long career in local politics. Elected to Norwich City Council in May 1983 where he served for over 20 years as a city councillor. Elected as Sheriff of Norwich (1990-91), Cabinet member for Enterprise and Business (2002-06), and Lib Dem Group leader at City Hall (1991-94) and (2008-2010). Volunteer, teacher and mentor with local charity, New Routes Integration, since September 2019. Appointed to the board of trustees in May 2021.Qualified as a TEFL teacher back in 2006 and provided one-to-one and small group teaching for over 10 years. Has worked with international adults at INTO UEA, Bell School Norwich, local language schools and various Norfolk based companies. Has successfully completed a Chapterhouse training course on proofreading and copy-editing.Specialises: English language tuition for foreign adults, proofreading and editing, mentoring and support Has previously worked at Barclays Bank (1973-78), Imperial Foods Group (1978-81), DHSS (1981-89), Ministry of Agriculture (1989-92), Office of Government Commerce (1992-96) In 1997 he co-founded a local chauffeur business called Sapphire Chauffeurs which still operates to this day. In addition to his current business responsibilities, he works part time in administration at the University of East Anglia. Also active in several other public roles: Was Chairman of Norwich Airport Ltd (2002-06), an experienced past chairman of governors at a local Norwich school, and trustee at Norwich Consolidated Charities, the Forum Trust, and Norwich Arts Centre. More recently was chairman of the Eaton and University Safer Neighbourhood Panel.
