As Vice President of Engineering, I am responsible for the hands-on coordination and implementation of products from the basic concept phase all the way through the coordination and execution of a successful launch of new products.I lead in the search efforts for possible new products and emerging technologies to ensure that the company is a leader and keeps ahead of those changing technologies. I am involved with the identification of, and provide opinions on, possible acquisition targets.I am responsible for building a high performance Engineering team at our headquarters in Houston, TX and will be instrumental in building the same, high performing team at our facility in Changzhou, China. I coordinate with Human Resources to ensure that performance reviews are conducted on time and that employees receive fair compensation, recognition for work, and provide suggestions, and opportunities, for the advancement of their careers.
Engineering Manager - Smith Borehole Enlargement
Having transitioned out of Operations and back into our Engineering group, I was responsible for the Engineering Management within the Borehole Enlargement product line, which generated approximately $120Million per year in revenues for Smith International. I was responsible for both Production and R&D Engineering within the group, the personnel and financials, and providing support to our global operations group and their customers. I distributed the workload according to a time sensitive schedule and maintained an open dialog with both internal and external customers to ensure successful, timely delivery of products and services. I monitored the Engineering requests from our global field districts and respond accordingly. Currently hold eleven domestic and international patents for tools and methods pertaining to the Oil & Gas industry. I have attended several management training programs and workshops which focused on employment law, communication, quality and safety enhancement, team building, increasing personal effectiveness and management and employee development.
Senior District Manager
I was promoted to District Manager over all products offered at the Houston District facility. I was responsible for the personnel, financials, and inventory levels and running of the business at the facility. During my tenure the billed revenue increased by 10% to $48Million in less than 9 months whilst maintaining an EBIT of 48%. Reduced the ATB by 60% in the same time frame. Promoted LEAN analysis at the district to identify areas for improvement to enhance productivity and increase profitability.
Operations Manager
Promoted to Operations Manager over drilling and remedial products at the Houston District facility. Responsible for the personnel, financials, inventory levels and running of the business segment at the facility. Billed revenue increased by 100% in less than 6 months. Introduced quality and safety systems to provide improved service from the district.
Applications Engineer / Technical Sales
Recruited to provide technical and sales support within the Thru Tubing Fishing & Remedial division of Smith. Working closely with the other members of the sales team to increase our customer base in the domestic market but also to maintain a healthy relationship with our existing customers. Also provided technical expertise both internally within the department and externally to our customers. I developed new tool concepts which allowed our division to increase its market share within the fishing and remedial side of our business.Transferred to the Applications Engineering group to provide technical support within Smith. Worked closely with the other members of the team to provide technical expertise to the operations, sales and technology groups within the company and provided assistance to our customers globally.
Project Engineer
I was recruited to conduct numerous research and development projects and also maintain and improve our existing product lines. Involved in the design and drafting of these concepts and also responsible for the assembly, test verification and the writing of the assembly and service procedures for these new tools. I traveled to various overseas locations to test new products, review and solve problems with existing product lines and provide engineering technical support. Relocated to Houston in 2001 to work as a Project Engineer within the R&D Engineering group. During this period, I was asked to provide my engineering knowledge working on the design and development of numerous projects. Working primarily on, but not limited to, tools for the Thru Tubing side of not only our fishing and remedial tools but also the development our Thru Tubing/Coiled Tubing Sidetracking systems. I co-authored several technical papers which were published by SPE and ICoTA which were presented at trade shows worldwide and have been granted numerous domestic and international patents. I provided Project Management leadership in the design and development of two innovative new products.
Product Designer
Recruited initially as a Drafter in 1991, I was responsible for the production of mechanical component drawings and check layouts for numerous projects with the Completions and Liner Hanger product line. I reported to the Design Engineers with whom I worked closely during the developments of new products. Promoted to Design Drafter in 1993, where my role changed and was now responsible for producing small design concepts. I was also required to evaluate any product rejections originating from both our internal machine shop and external vendors used to manufacture parts. Promoted to Product Designer in 1996 which required me to become responsible for major design projects and the assembly and testing of these new products. I was recruited as a member of a Value Analysis team, responsible for cost reductions on our standard product lines and any newly developed products and also implementing improved manufacturing methods. The team was required to save a set amount of money each year through the Value Analysis program which was always met or exceeded.
