About Brian Wey
I'm a fintech product executive with 22 years of product management experience, across a broad range of companies. The majority of my experience has been in global payments. At Airbnb I was hired as the first PM specializing in payments. I scaled our payments processing capabilities from hundreds of millions of dollars to hundreds of billions; I also scaled the organization from 10 to 250 over a six and a half year run. We expanded our local payment processing capability to over 190 countries, and I focused on local processing in some of the most challenging regimes in the world: Brazil, India, and China. We set up local entities in each, ensuring compliance with local payment and tax regulations. My team and I went vertical in the payments stack - we built the front-end consumer experience and optimized it across geographies and platforms. We also built our internal platform to support multiple internal businesses, ensured that we did not create or destroy payments data, and fed data into downstream financial systems to ensure that we could close our books while minimizing risk of restatement. In my role at Airbnb, I ascended to executive levels and built a product management team of over 20 PMs focusing on payments. I'm proud of the fact that over 50% of the team were women, that we had diverse representation across the team, and that we built a culture of training new PMs brought in from other functions. I take management and development very seriously, and actively helped to shape Airbnb's PM recruiting, development, and calibration processes. Before Airbnb, I was Director of Product for Zong, a payments company, where I executed our international product roadmap, as well as our design, user experience, and marketing. Zong was acquired by PayPal (eBay) in the summer of 2011. At PayPal I was a Director of Product Management, leading the company’s direction for the Digital Goods merchant vertical, such as Facebook, Skype, and hundreds of gaming companies.Prior to Zong/PayPal, I led products and teams at startups and big corporations: Bleacher Report, Cake Financial, Apple, and Yahoo!.I believe in the power of fintech to create more economic opportunity around the world. I believe in opening doors, giving access to those that did not have access before. To that end, I am currently working on an early stage startup to help grow the business of investment products, and to help grow a new generation of investment product creators.
Listed skills include Product Management, Mobile Devices, User Experience, Start Ups, and 15 others.
