As a front end engineer, I took over the brunt of the front end work for all of the New York Public Radio websites. I refreshed the interface for our embeddable on demand audio player, built a new responsive article template, and spear headed the investigation into new client-side frameworks for the site.The result of my work lead to the adoption of Ember and the speedy release of a new audio player that no longer leveraged pop-up windows for playback across pageviews.

I worked closely with designers and other other developers to deliver CMS-driven websites built for long-term client use and management.I frequently worked as a one-stop-shop for technical needs; my typical workflow is to receive a PSD file and then turn it into a website soup to nuts. Within those constraints, I learned a lot of things "the hard way" (i.e. trial, error, and research):- Working exclusively in a command line environment- Comfortable with server configs and… Show more I worked closely with designers and other other developers to deliver CMS-driven websites built for long-term client use and management.I frequently worked as a one-stop-shop for technical needs; my typical workflow is to receive a PSD file and then turn it into a website soup to nuts. Within those constraints, I learned a lot of things "the hard way" (i.e. trial, error, and research):- Working exclusively in a command line environment- Comfortable with server configs and .htaccess files- Installing full LAMP stacks on weekends for fun- A deep and abiding respect for UNIX programsDuring this time I was most comfortable working in the front-end, which is where 60% of my time was spent. Another 25% was spent dragging, dropping, and clicking around CMS interfaces (mostly ExpressionEngine) so that non-technical people didn't have to approach their Content Management System with fear and confusion. At Urgent Content, I was part of a small team of developers who produced websites and web apps to achieve business goals for our clients. I worked closely with a server-side (PHP) developer to customize and implement HTML/CSS/JS templates on top of the ExpressionEngine CMS. I also handle most of the web server configuration (.htaccess, httpd.conf, php.ini, etc.), if needed.

As one of the partners in a small company, I addressed needs as they came up in a number of areas including client relations, finance, operations, or strategy.I focused on brand communications and social media integration, giving our clients the most effective way to get their message out and get results within a younger, web-savvy demographic.
