The FARM Committee implemented board policy, and assisted in the Medicare Local's governance, due care, diligence and skill in relation to the internal control system, risk management regime, business policies and practices, protection of company assets, developing and recommending policy and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and best practice guidelines. The Abbot government closed all Medicare Locals across Australia in 2015.

Brian was seconded to Quadrem by Rio Tinto in August 2000 to establish the international legal and tax structure for an electronic transaction delivery platform established by 20 leading global mining companies which now services 1,500 buyers and 180,000 suppliers operating in 25 countries in 10 languages handling US$20 billion in annual throughput. He joined Quadrem in 2001 as Chief Legal Officer responsible for all legal aspects of the Quadrem group, and Company Secretary responsible for all board and committee meetings throughout the Group. He later assumed the roles of Chief Privacy Officer responsible for an annual security audit and Chief Risk Officer developing, implementing and reporting on risk management to the board and senior management. He was an integral part of the senior management team involved in all aspects of the business, had oversight of staff in Dallas and Amsterdam and attended all board and committee meetings over 10 years. He was also a director of Quadrem subsidiaries in Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Hong Kong, Mexico, The Netherlands, Singapore and South Africa.

Brian joined Rio Tinto in 1989 as GM Legal and progressed to Chief Counsel working in resources, cross border joint ventures, due diligence, divestments and intellectual property matters in many countries around the world and was latterly responsible for shipping, group procurement and e-commerce. He headed the legal team that carried out a due diligence on the proposed privatization and acquisition of the Venezuelan aluminium industry, advised Comalco on water rights in Chile and operational issues with the alumina refinery in Italy, advised Rio Tinto on the sale of assets in USA, Taiwan and Chile, and was a director of Rio Tinto Shipping Pty. Ltd.

Brian moved to Shell Australia in 1983 as Senior Legal Officer specializing in resources work as well as acquisitions and takeovers and was later promoted to Assistant Treasurer and with a staff of seven was responsible for Shell Australia’s borrowing portfolio. He was Shell’s lead lawyer on the joint takeover of Woodside by Shell and BHP and advised on the acquisition of the 7/11 franchise.

In 1978 Brian became the first legal manager employed by Holmes à Court for the Bell group of companies where he specialised in takeovers, mergers and acquisitions within the transport, tyre franchising, property, radio, newspapers, television, finance, shipping, ships chandling, heavy earthmoving contracting and resources industries. He was a director of Heytesbury Holdings Limited, the Holmes à Court company that controlled The Bell Group and which had interests in property and stud farming.
