About Bridget Lee

I have spent the last ten years in operations (what I consider to be a catchall title) at small companies. Working at these microenterprises allowed me to flex my renaissance woman muscles by getting involved in numerous aspects of the business. I have experience in project management, collecting and analyzing data, coordinating national meetings, HTML coding, writing SOPs, designing websites and printables, communicating with clients, and learning needed skills on the fly. While seemingly unrelated to education, I believe these varied experiences complement my teaching background and make me a stronger educator.I thrive in environments where I’m always learning and adapting to new challenges. I live for puzzling out creative solutions to problems by drawing on my mishmash of experiences and skills. Or, better yet, going down a research rabbit hole to pick up new information to add to my repertoire!I enjoyed working in operations, but I have sorely missed teaching. My passion is working with upper elementary students, so it has been energizing being back in the classroom as a student teacher! I am going through SFSU’s multiple subject credential program to get my license to teach in California. As a teacher, my priorities are to: • Create a meaningful connection with all of my students • Have open and frequent communication with families • Continually deepen my content knowledge • Stay up to date on the latest education and child development research • Dive into evidence-based pedagogical practices • Constantly reassess and tweak what I’m doing in the classroom to adapt to my individual students’ needs.

I designed the course structure to build upon itself and access multiple modalities of learning and created resources that deepen the understanding of the course content. From analyzing, crunching, and displaying the data for our annual income and fee surveys to writing blog posts on how to build a travel agent website, interacting with agents on our private Facebook group to setting up live webinars, I truly get to stretch my mind and talents to new areas. My work also bleeds into the advertising arena- both working with our advertisers as well as creating and managing HAR's advertising collateral. By the time students graduate high school, an estimated 2/3 of a school year will have been with a substitute (NCTQ Roll Call Report)! I strive to make those days count for more than "free days". That means I implement lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher or, if none were left, I engage students with my own prepared grade/subject-specific plans and activites.

This included creating the framework, designing the look and filling with content. Our new Portal got rave reviews from our agents and has seen a steady usage growth since its inception in August of 2014.Other notable accomplishments during this time involved tweaking the TQ branding to give a fresh, clean look to Travel Quest and giving the website a much needed update in both design, content and user experience. I was a first point of contact for travel agents looking to join a host agency. My main focus was speaking with prospective independent contractors; answering questions about Travel Quest, explaining how our plans work and guiding them through the signup process.Being a bit of a Jane-of-all-trades, I also managed our optional website program for ICs, designed advertising material, created emails and helped out with support for existing agents.

The lesson planning involved finding creative ways to spark interest and lead students to discover concepts rather than lecturing. One of my most successful science lessons involved nylon, oatmeal and mentos to demonstrate the functions of the digestive tract. After that, my students were not only super excited about the inner workings of the body but were also able to correctly identify the main jobs of the stomach, small intestine and large intestine!
