Arthur Morgan School is a montessori boarding middle school for grades 7-9. At AMS, we encourage a climate of intellectual curiosity inside and out of the classroom, encouraging students to see connections between their studies and the world around them. Our active and experiential approach to learning teaches self-motivated curiosity and discipline, laying the foundations for a life of inquiry and creative problem solving. Hands-on academic classes allow students to explore how the material they are learning relates to the world. Small classes (6-10 students) enable teachers to focus on individual needs and allow for frequent class discussion and debate.

Coordinating the ROVER RENCI Outreach Vehicle for Education and Research which includes collaborating with the NC Arboretum, RiverLink an the Colburn Earth Science Museum to offer hands-on science delivered to area schools.Working with the Media Arts Project MAP to create an immersive geo dome movie experience that will educate a wide audience on the Water Cycle, Run-Off, Impervious Surface and Flooding.Collaborating with the Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center at the Forest Service Southern Research Station to develop technology enhanced ways to deliver environmental threat science to anyone interested in trees but especially land owners and forest managers.

Collected surveys of users entering the Bent Creek Experimental Forest.

Maintained a current, accurate database on 5 lines of transgenic research animals. Conducted DNA isolation and Polymerase Chain Reaction to identify genetic markers of pups.Planned experiments and necropsies.Coordinated operations for Walker lab with the different resource groups in Science Park, including care of research animals, breeding and necropsies. Responsible for sending and receiving of sensitive materials and lawful handling methods.Maintained lab equipment, purchasing and inventory of supplies.Prepared common use solutions and proper handling of sensitive waste materials.

Conducted disturbance ecology research in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Mt. St. Helens through University of Utah at the Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Laboratory. Conducted sampling in streams, ponds, talus mountainsides, old growth forest and clear cuts, as part of a small field herpetological team. Collected data on small mammals, herpetofauna, soil, vegetation, tree cover, understory growth, slope.Collected aspect data and GPS points to create GIS layers depicting animal capture sites in relation to the collected animal capture data. Entered data to create an extensive herpetological and disturbance recovery database for the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Mt. St. Helens. Participated in filming of several news pieces concerning the 20th anniversary of the eruption.

Researched natural history, and native oral history of the Puget Sound.Researched K-12 curriculum, games and activities.Designed classes on environmental education and natural history for visiting K-12 students and teachers.Specialized in using the 100 acres of second growth forest bordering the coast of the Puget Sound to make each class focused on learning by doing, hands-on and experiential activities. Led classes ranging in subject from the tides and tidal creatures to forest ecology.
