Working with the Evidence and Experimentation team at Nesta, who are responsible for the design and delivery of CAPE’s learning programmes for academics and policymakers. I will be supporting Nesta in the development of their two training workstreams: Training for Policy Professionals and Training for University Partners.The £4 million Capabilities in Academic Policy Engagement (CAPE) project is a partnership between UCL and the universities of Cambridge, Manchester, Northumbria and Nottingham, in collaboration with the Government Office for Science, the Parliamentary Office for Science & Technology, Nesta, and the Transforming Evidence Hub. Funded by Research England, it has been created to support effective and sustained engagement between academics and policy professionals in different geographical and policy contexts across England, enabling greater understanding and cooperation between universities, national government, Parliament and regional and local authoritieshttps://www.cape.ac.uk/

Researcher Connect provides participants with the insights, understanding and tools to communicate effectively, whatever the situation or context. The course has been delivered across the globe and participant feedback has consistently shown that the workshop enhances researchers’ communication skills, knowledge and ability.As a trainer for the Research Connect program I will support the delivery of Researcher Connect workshops across countries/regions or online; draft content for new Researcher Connect training materials, as needed and help inform future developments in the Researcher Connect programme offer.

I worked to deliver strategic projects for the College and to provide cover for the Director of College Operations as needed. During my time in this position, I played a critical role in building the business case for the future strategy, which included working on education programme development.

I managed the sector-focused Government and Society team to support impact development, business development, research collaboration with external partners and income generation across the University. As a team we were responsible for the delivery of a 5year £35mIlion income target across a portfolio of KE activities including collaboration research, consultancy, contract research, CPD and degree apprenticeships. In addition we were responsible for the delivery of impact development and evidence support for circa 50 impact case studies across all four main REF panels. Our work played a key role in supporting the University to rank first in the Russell Group for its growth in 4* impact in REF 2021. The team worked proactively with partners and networks across the following sectors: Education; Defence, Security and Conflict; Financial Services; and Crime, Justice and Law.I was also the Innovation, Impact, and Business (IIB) Business Partner for the College of Social Sciences and International Studies.

As a Research Development Manager I had responsibility for the Leverhulme Trust and ESRC portfolios.This involved supporting and facilitating research applications, particularly those which were interdisciplinary and/ or involved multiple partners.In addition to this, I was involved in the University’s strategic initiatives and provided support for two Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) Themes – Environment and Sustainability and Science, Technology and Culture. I also worked with the Head of Computer Science to initiate, design and deliver the initial business case for the now established Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

During an extended period of maternity leave I was involved in several projects:1. Coached and advised the Director of a consultancy with global clients on extending and refining her public profile and communication, in order to expand her business. 2. Created a new baby, toddler and maternity wear company 'Enfant terrible'.3. Volunteer fundraiser for local community organisation (co-wrote successful Awards for All application).

Supported the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research in the delivery of the University's research strategy and the development of the University research environment. Held particular responsibility for the planning and management of the University's Research Assessment (REF) process.Coordinated the Vice-Chancellor's Community Research Awards.Secretary to the University Research and Innovation Committee and the University Human Research Ethics Committee.Managed internal funding scheme that supported international research projects.Drafted management reports, external consultation responses, policy documents and marketing copy.Led a team of three people during a period of organisational change.

Project managed Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) between the University of Plymouth and businesses throughout the South West of England and beyond.Managed all aspects of the projects, ensuring that client quantitive and qualitative targets were achieved.Ensured that, following project completion, partnerships achieved ongoing benefits to all parties, including consultancy contracts for the University.

Clients included the British Council, the Environment Agency and Brintex Events. Worked on multinational and national projects. Responsibilities included research, sales, client and contract management.

Coordinated workshops, conferences, summer schools and events that targeted students and encouraged them to continue into Higher Education.

Played a key role in the establishment of a successful undergraduate Film Studies programme, which translated world-class research into teaching. My contributions included module leadership, lecturing, assessment, the management of other tutors and external stakeholder engagement.
