Write both fiction and non-fiction. My literary terrain covers the personal and the professional. Covered subject matter ranging from battling a brain tumor to navigating unemployment. My sharp sense of humor and irony is often showcased in the work. My short story, “Lilly’s Hunger” was featured in “Streetlights: Illuminating Tales of the Urban Black Experience,” (Penguin Books, 1996). "Sweetie" was featured in the 2009-2010 double issue of Obsidian: Literature in the African Diaspora. An oral history of my unemployment journey is showcased in D.W. Gibson’s “Not Working: People Talk About Losing a Job and Finding Their Way in Today's Changing Economy,” (July, 2012). Interviewed on two national radio shows regarding unemployment and invited to participate in a congressional briefing on Capitol Hill by U.S. Rep. John Conyers in May 2013. My essay, “A Literary Place,” is featured in the newly released “27 Views of Raleigh: The City of Oaks in Prose & Poetry,” (Eno Publishers, fall 2013.)

I’ve turned my love for food into my first cookbook, Sunday Dinner. I offer an ode to a meal that, notably in the Sabbath-minding South, is more than a meal. Sunday dinner is "a state of mind. It is about taking the time to be with the people who matter to you." Describing my own childhood Sunday dinners, in which my beloved, culinary-minded grandfather played an indelible role, I explore and celebrate the rhythms of Sunday food traditions. Sunday Dinner provides remedy and delicious inspiration any day of the week. Available now for pre-order. In stores, September 7, 2015.
