Profile bio

About Bridget Virginia Kearney, Ph.D.

I possess diverse experience within education, programming and research, including working in various cultural, community, and educational settings with those that are institutionally and societally marginalized. I am adept at building culturally-responsive curriculum and well-versed in adult learning theory. I hold a Ph.D. in Education, with a specialization in Languages, Literacies, Cultures and Communities. My doctoral research --- methodologically and theoretically grounded in ethnography, participatory action research, critical pedagogy and postcolonial theory --- examined the impact of storytelling as a culturally sustaining action for fostering community and making sense of displacement among the Masalit-speaking Sudanese diaspora in Louisville, KY.Currently, I oversee the Muhammad Ali Center Experience for Colleges and Universities. Our curriculum and programming, rooted in critical pedagogy, aims to foster a sense of community and resilience among incoming first-year students, with a particular focus on first-generation and BIPOC students.I am passionate, strategic, and equity-minded. I believe that education, research and programming should be liberatory and rooted in culturally responsive practices that value the lived experience of all participants. I am committed to applying an intersectional lens to all my programming, curriculum, fieldwork, writing and research. My career is dedicated to impactful work that advances social justice and policy change.Community is resistance.

Listed skills include Leadership, Team Coordination, Writing, Adult Learning Methodologies, and 46 others.
