About Brie Corsa
I specialize in generating high-resolution (<0.5 meter) Digital Elevation/Surface Models (DEMs/DSMs) and Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) time series. These geodetic products may be used to measure ground displacement/deformation caused by natural hazards or monitor precursory activity leading to high-magnitude events. I currently work on several trailblazing projects that involve automated detection of surface or elevation change, integration of multiple geodetic datasets, geophysical/mathematical modeling, and machine learning. I am mostly interested in applications towards volcanic eruption early warning, but have also used these methodologies to characterize landslides, tsunami scour, glacier dynamics, earthquakes, coastal inundation, and more.
Listed skills include Research, Geophysics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, and 23 others.

Nsf Earth Science Research Fellow At The Usgs California Volcano Observatory
Current1: Generate raw DInSAR and integrated DInSAR+GNSS time series for eruptive events.2: Model volcanic source parameters for each event using DInSAR+GNSS time series, which contain 3 components of motion (east-west, x; north-south, y; and up-down, z). 3: Create synthetic training data related to DInSAR+GNSS. One training set is only time-sensitive and one has dual spatiotemporal components.4: Apply machine learning to both the time-sensitive data and the spatiotemporal-sensitive data. Compare the effectiveness/efficiency of the algorithms to accurately estimate future ground displacement. Determine the role that spatial information plays in reliably forecasting potential volcanic unrest.Integrated geodetic time series that capture the pre-, co-, post-phases of an eruption create a baseline for deformation patterns leading to hazardous events, can forewarn scientists to impending disasters, and distinguish between deformation types (volcanic, tectonic, hydrothermal, etc). Modeling volcanic source geometry helps map subsurface structure and magmatic parameters as 3D observations, and generates synthetic training data to teach machine learning algorithms to detect anomalous ground motions through time. Analyzing the influence of the spatial field within training data is the first step towards achieving consistent, reliable forecasts. These results will lead to fundamental understanding of the evolution of volcanic eruptions and will constrain subsurface transport pathways from surface deformation patterns.High-resolution Digital Surface Models (DSMs) are also a major goal of this project. DSMs depict the Earth’s topographic surface at sub-meter resolution and can be used to identify areas of elevation change through time, or calculate the total volume of material involved in a hazardous event. DSMs can also improve deformation estimates or be used to remove topographic error in DInSAR. DSM differencing can supplement decorrelated regions in SAR images.
Postdoctoral Researcher
CurrentDetection and time series analysis of natural hazards through utilization of optical and radar satellite remote sensing techniques.
Phd Graduate Research Assistant
1: GeoSciFramework Project: The GeoSciFramework project, funded by the NSF Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure and NSF EarthCube programs, aims to improve intermediate-to-short term forecasts of catastrophic natural hazard events, allowing researchers to instantly detect when an event has occurred and reveal the more suppressed, long-term motions of Earth's surface at unprecedented scales. Training machine learning algorithms to recognize patterns across various data signals during geophysical events.2. The Interaction of Mass Movements with Natural Hazards Under Changing Hydrologic Conditions: Research funded by NASA on landslide and debris flow dynamics influenced and initiated by regional geologic and climatic factors such as earthquakes, precipitation, and wildfire. Involves developing landslide models and susceptibility maps, (mostly with python-friendly programs), and global database collection and assembly. 3: Comparison of InSAR time series products generated under different processing techniques: We developed our own automated processing using the small baseline subset (SBAS) method performed in parallel using GMT5SAR and GIAnT on SUMMIT Supercomputer. Comparing performance with ISCE and MintPy and an innovative technique (developed by Drs. Zheng and Zebker from Stanford Univ.), which focuses the topographic phase component of the SAR signal.4. Create digital elevation/surface models (DEMs/DSMs) from high resolution satellite optical imagery to compare differences in topography from before and after hazardous events5. Coupled hazards like landslide-induced tsunamis and arctic glacier mapping: measure surface deformation; displacement volume; LOS offset tracking; time series analysis (including integration of GPS for 3-D surface movement); map post-event landscape evolution ; and evaluate environmental impact - Licensed Drone Pilot and Visual Observer (VO) (May 2018- Present)- Department of Geologic Sciences Colloquium Committee & Social Chair
