About Brieana Johnson
I am a social justice educator with expertise in serving students from marginalized communities; specifically low-income students, students of color, and English Language Learners.I have served students over the past 15 years in Inglewood, Compton, Watts, and Oakland. I am passionate about intentional and culturally responsive curricular design and pedagogy, creating safe and transformative spaces for students, and bridging the gap between rigor and accessibility. Most recently, I have broadened my focus to include providing teachers with the resources and support necessary to achieve these goals through a project called Pedagogy of Resistance, well as in supporting pre-service teachers as an Adjunct Instructor in University of San Francisco’s Teacher Education Program.

Pedagogy Of Resistance
Pedagogy of Resistance envisions a community of educators dedicated to transforming the entire system of education, starting with their own classrooms. Through intentional and critical reflection on teaching practices, coupled with concrete curricular resources, teachers are able to utilize the services provided by Pedagogy of Resistance in order to enact meaningful progress toward a decolonized learning experience for all students. To this end, Pedagogy of Resistance’s mission is to: Diversify the literary canon and shift the narrative about which voices are valued in literacy education by co-creating curriculum resources for literature by and bout people of color, women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and other marginalized groupsCultivate a community of educators dedicated to using their teaching practice as a means for directly dismantling the oppressive ideologies and practices that maintain systems of domination in our schools.
