Contracting Officer
Owner/Attorney At Law
In February of 2015, I left the law office of Conner, Rigg, Williamson & Yim to pursue a solo legal practice under my own name.Originally working solely in appointed criminal defense in Greene County, my firm quickly expanded into the areas of private criminal defense, family law, and bankruptcy practices. In addition, the Law Office of Benjamin Rigg provides for my clients' personal legal issues, covering everything from individual legal research, to the creation of estate planning documents and assisting landlords with situations involving their tenants. In addition to its presence in Montgomery and Greene Counties, the Law Office also maintains membership in local professional networking groups, ensuring that my clients have a wealth of resources to deal with any non-legal problems that may arise.
Attorney At Law
After six months of working on medical malpractice issues at Charles Deters & Associates in Cincinnati, I decided that I wanted to return to primarily working in and around the Dayton area. In addition, I greatly desired to change from a focus on medical malpractice to working on criminal defense and family law.So, in August 2014 I formed the law office of Conner Rigg, LLC with Kevin Conner, my partner and colleague at the University of Dayton School of Law. This firm was designed to essentially consist of several boutique law practices under one umbrella, and allowed for mutual support in each attorney's area of practice. After the first of the year, Conner Rigg, LLC was incorporated into the law office of Conner, Rigg, Williamson & Yim Co., LPA, after the addition of two new partners and the expansion of the office space.
Associate Attorney
While at the office of Charles Deters & Associates, I was primarily tasked with the drafting and amending of civil complaints in a mass tort setting. The team to which I was assigned ultimately would see more than 400 complaints for medical malpractice pass through our hands, and each one required a careful assessment in conjunction with registered nurses and professional investigators prior to a final drafting and filing. These lawsuits covered a variety of medical procedures and focused on the actions of a small group of doctors and the hospitals that employed them.In addition to the extensive experience gained in the area of legal drafting, I also made frequent appearances in the local court to assist the firm's trial attorneys in their efforts.
Law Clerk (Intern)
In the summer of 2012, I spent 7 weeks working with the judges of the Wayne County, IN Courthouse as an a law clerk. This position allowed me to gain experience working with a variety of different cases, judges, and legal topics, and also fulfilled an internship requirement for the University of Dayton School of Law.In this position, I worked primarily with Judge Gregory Horn of the Wayne County Superior II Court. My principal task while working with Judge Horn was a 90-day project to research and draft an Order on a Motion for Post Conviction Relief that had been submitted to the Court on a Robbery-Homicide case. My draft of the Order, which had been officially entered with only minor revisions, was later upheld on appeal by the Indiana Supreme Court. During this time, I also researched and wrote an internal memo for Judge Horn's office on state and federal wiretapping laws to be kept in the Superior II office for future reference. While working for the Superior II court I also researched and wrote opinions on current issues before the Superior I and III courts, covering topics such as traffic violations and the voluntariness of confessions during custodial interrogation.
Case Manager
My position at The Bradburn Law Firm as a Case Manager developed my initial interest in becoming an attorney through work in petition drafting, research, and client management. Case Managers were responsible for the daily handling of clients' bankruptcy petitions. I performed initial assessment interviews, completing forms to assist our staff attorneys in making a recommendation to the client on bankruptcy options. Once a client agreement was reached, I would schedule document collection appointments with clients, gathering all of the paperwork necessary to create the bankruptcy petition. Using the collected paperwork, I would draft the client's Bankruptcy Petition, including all schedules and declarations. I would then review the finished petition with office attorneys, making changes as directed to the forms. When the bankruptcy petition met client and attorney approval, the petition would be filed with the court using the ECF system.
