During my early college days when I thought I would be a computer scientist I was required to take a basics of computing course as a general studies requirement. This class was meant to teach the true basics, Word, Excel, etc. However it also gave brief looks into more exciting things such as Photoshop but most importantly to me, Adobe Premiere.For the class we were required to make a music video and submit it for a contest on campus using either our own clips or stock ones provided for the course. Keep in mind this was 2008 when taking video on your own wasn't quite as easy as just pulling your cell phone out and recording. Not thinking about it much I borrowed a friend's camera and their time to record a silly video to the tune of Jerk It Out by the Caesars. It was mostly clips of him or me unplugging things in comedic settings but I had a ton of fun filming and then editing, something I never expected to enjoy. I went on to win the class competition and cemented my passion for this new career path.As I pursued an education involving video production and editing, I found myself drawn into the world of news. While not the most lucrative side of video work it provided me the proving ground for my skills, I learned better photography skills, quick editing, powerful writing skills and the way to handle tight deadlines. It also allowed me to continue telling stories that mattered as I passed on the important events of the day to the communities I worked in.Now I'm ready to continue telling those stories in any way possible. From filming them, writing compelling scripts or editing the content to get your story right, I'm excited about making video projects come to life.
