I have acquired knowledge and skills in both preventive and reactive maintenance and I have come to appreciate the advantages of preventive maintenance like; avoiding component failure, boosting fleet availability, increasing unit life span and increasing resale value. On the other hand, I have come to understand that reactive maintenance costs three to four times more than preventive maintenance. Therefore, through practicing preventive maintenance, it helps in ensuring that industrial machinery and equipment runs smoothly and reliably. As a trainee, it has helped me improve on my troubleshooting skills and continuous improvement of periodic maintenance skills whereas to the company it has helped in achieving long term cost reductions. • Trouble shooting procedures like identifying the problem, establishing a theory of probable cause, testing the theory to determine the cause, establishing a plan of action to resolve the problem and implementing the solution, verifying full system functionality and, if applicable, implement preventive measures, documenting findings, action and outcomes. • I have also acquired knowledge and skills in occupational safety and health and I have come to understand both the operational safety as per the Operation Maintenance Manual (OMM) and the safety of the worker for example appreciating the importance of the personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring that the 5S (sort, set, standardize, shine, sustain) and the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) are put into consideration. This has helped the company achieve full reporting of employees on duty due to minimal risks of occurrence of accidents
