Brina Williams, Msw Email and Phone Number
My name is Brina Williams and I am a nationally recognized child welfare advocate, consultant, and social worker. I am a two-time alum of Western Michigan University, where I got my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work, and am currently serving as a Young Adult Consultant at the Capacity Building Center for States, in addition to being Project Coordinator for Educate Tomorrow’s Changemakers. I have been a devoted advocate for the last eight years, committed to changing the systems and perceptions of foster care, mental health, LGBTQIA2S+, and many others. I am the President of Ingham County's Michigan Youth Opportunities Initiative and am part of the Continuous Quality Improvement Focus Group for Foster Care in Ingham County. I have served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Children's Mental Health for the last four years, am a member of Michigan's Statewide Youth Advisory Board for foster care, am a member of the Leadership Corp for the National Foster Youth Institute Michigan Chapter and have served as an FSM Ambassador. Most recently, I partook in FosterClub’s AllStar Internship in the summer of 2023, where I focused on further developing my relationship-building and leadership skills. I hope to use my lived experience to develop emerging leaders and advocates passionate about helping people and changing things.

Team With Lived Experience - MichiganQuality Improvement Center On Engaging Youth In Finding Permanency Jul 2024 - PresentMichigan, United StatesThe State of Michigan has a population of approximately 10,032,750. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) provides child welfare services through its Children’s Services Agency (CSA). The state has 83 counties that are organized into five regional Business Service Centers. The vision of the Children’s Services Agency is to lead Michigan in supporting our children, youth, and families to reach their full potential. Its mission states that child welfare professionals will demonstrate an unwavering commitment to engage and collaborate with the families we serve to ensure their safety, permanency, and well-being through a trauma-informed approach.Although approximately 50% of foster care cases in Michigan are managed through contracted private child-placing agencies, the QIC-EY pilot program will include only MDHHS staff due to the overlaps in statewide service areas for private agencies. The counties participating in the QIC-EY as intervention sites are Mecosta, Monroe, Muskegon, and Oakland. The comparison counties are Ingham, Macomb, Midland, and Oscoda. For more information about the QIC-EY project in Michigan, please contact Sarah Goad, MSW, Foster Care, Guardianship and Adoption Program Office Manager, at GoadS@michigan.gov.
