Associate R&D Engineer
Design Engineer / Co-Op
I began working with Managed Programs, LLC. (MPI), as an high school intern. I would make small design changes, and helped work with engineering to create assembly drawings. I then worked with them to start up a sponsorship program for Kettering University (formerly GMI), and was their first Co-op student. During my time at Kettering I served as a design engineer for MPI, where I would be in charge of 3D modeling of parts for both rapid prototype (SLS) and injection molding. Additionally, I was able to spend a month in our Seoul,South Korea office to receive FEA training. This training was centered around proper part design for intake manifolds. During the last 6 months of my work term I was the lead design engineer for an intake manifold, Russian based, program. There I dealt with engineering and manufacturing as the product went from concept --> rapid prototype (SLS) --> production. Additional duties would include: holding engineering design reviews, working with customer to make any necessary design changes, testing of SLS parts, and tooling feasibility.Thesis - Evaluation of NylonMold(tm) for Intake Manifold Applications*comparison of a rapid prototype to a mid-high production process. Involved design of rapid prototype plastic part, calibration and use of vibration welding machine, burst testing analysis, and FEA analysis for test validation. Worked with cross-functional teams dealing with design, manufacturing, and potential sales benefits.
