As a system-level Intern, I worked along side IU Health's Culture of Safety Team. My project surrounded IU Health's data collection and event reporting process. Specifically, I assessed current state use, connected with key stakeholders, uncovered opportunities for improvement, developed an RFI, and connected with external vendors. After completing an internal and external scan, I leveraged data analytics to drive my recommendation on a safety event reporting system to be implemented throughout the many facilities within IU Health.

In the first half of this internship opportunity, I assisted in the development and transitioning to the new IU Health Bloomington Hospital - Regional Academic Health Center. As an intern, I worked closely with the design and construction team where I was able to showcase my innovative and organizational skills - contributing to an on-time, on-budget project. In addition, I had the amazing opportunity to prepare healthcare professionals and community stakeholders for the transition by co-conducting weekly site tours while the new hospital was under construction.During the second half of this experience, I transitioned into a leadership role where I was able to take the tools learned throughout the first half of my internship and apply them to a project I had full lead over. My project was to ensure IUHB RAHC received "tree campus healthcare" recognition through the Arbor Day Foundation by 2022. In this role, I applied project management best practices to ensure I completed all stages of the application and submission process on time.

Virtual Internship

Through this internship opportunity, I was able to combine my passion for healthcare with my interest in law/policy and experience firsthand how these two industries are interconnected. My role consisted of working with a range of hospitals and other healthcare facilities in the Louisiana area following HIPAA regulations.
