Focused on Human Regulatory T cells (Treg) in hopes of finding a large molecule biologic to be used as a potential agent for immunotherapy treatment. I maintained long-term cell cultures after isolation and purification of lymphocyte sub-populations, including Tregs and effector T cells, using MACS magnetic bead separation and flow cytometry separation techniques. These cells are then used in functional assays of human T lymphocytes and dendritic cell function, such as CFSE proliferation assays and suppression assays. Also, I analyze the expression of cell surface antigens on human lymphocytes using flow cyomtery methods on the BD FACSCaliber and BD LSRII. More recently, I have been growing hybridoma cell lines in culture and then isolating purified antibody over Protein G columns that will then be further used in assays, such as FACS staining, suppression assays and CFSE proliferation assays.Contracted by Kelly Services, INC to the NIH.

As a member of the BioWatch program through the Department of Homeland Security, my responsibilities included molecular testing to rapidly identify and characterize potential pathogenic bacterial and viral treat agents. I performed and interpreted a variety of specialized tests for the identification of pathogenic microorganisms using Real time PCR and ELISA, following quality assurance (QA) measures. Maintained and operated equipment that included performing weekly and monthly calibrations, adjustments, and quality control (QC) of reagents currently in use.Contracted to the Dept. of Homeland Security.

Developed, optimized, and performed cellular immune response assays to evaluate the vaccine development of HIV-1 candidate vaccines by 8-11 color immunophenotyping from non human primate samples, mice, and rabbits. The optimization of several 8-11 FACS color panels focused on B and T cells, B and T Cell memory cells, natural killer cells, cytokines, proliferation, and activation. Also assisted with MHC Class I typing using PCR and gel electrophoresis, as well as Real-Time NASBA. Also performed Interferon Gamma and Interleukin-17A ELISpot assays to evaluate HIV-1 candidate vaccines for mice, non-human primate, and human samples.

As a post-baccalaureate fellow, I was apart of an investigation team working on a polysaccharide-protein conjugate vaccine project for Meningitis using polysaccharides isolated from various strains of the meningitis bacterium in conjunction with tetanus toxoids. We analyzed the components with HPLC and used these components to run immunological assays such as Serum Bactericidal Assay and ELISA to determine the effectiveness of the conjugate.
