The Stockyard, Clark-Fulton & Brooklyn Centre Community Development Office is a program of the Detroit Shoreway Community Development Office. We assist in facilitating the collaboration between residents, stakeholders and community partners, supporting neighborhood based initiatives that improve the quality of life for everyone in the Stockyard, Clark-Fulton and Brooklyn Centre neighborhoods of Cleveland Ohio. Specifically, I work within three different departments including housing, green space, and community organizing. I strongly believe in the collaboration between placemaking and human development, and this position has given me an opportunity to blend together and practice both of these frameworks. In the housing department I work on the acquisition, rehabilitation, and redevelopment of vacant and abandoned homes within the neighborhoods we serve. By working with homeowners, banks, and the Cuyahoga County Land Bank, our organization is able to acquire vacant homes that normally breed illegal activity and depress the quality of life in the neighborhood, and turn them over to investors, contractors, and families who will breathe new life into these wonderful, historic homes. Within the Green Space department I assist with programming that works to re-purpose vacant land within the communities we serve. Most recently, I worked on the Re-imagining project, sponsored by Cleveland Neighborhood Progress. Within the project, I helped numerous residents with a side-yard expansion and a frontal beautification of each vacant lot. What this does is improve property value within the neighborhood. Within the Community Organizing department I work to build networks and collaborations between residents, local businesses, and stakeholders by facilitating various community building events and activities.In addition, I also assist the organization by utilizing my experience in grant writing. http://www.dscdo.org/default.aspx

As a Time Bank Coordinator, I was in charge of recruiting, approving, and training new Time Bank members as well as coordinating social and educational events for all members. This included monthly potlucks and new member orientations, as well as quarterly fundraisers. The Akron Time Bank is a community economic alternative that serves the purpose of building and connecting a strong network of individuals with the purpose of supporting, enhancing, and utilizing each others unique skill-sets. I worked as a Case Manager for both the men's and women's Community Based Correctional Facilities in Summit County. The Summit County (CBCF) is a highly structured and secured community corrections program designed to reduce criminal behavior and divert eligible male and female felony offenders from the state prison system. The primary program components target criminogenic needs which have been proven to reduce recidivism. These services include chemical dependency treatment, education services, employment assistance, parenting classes, cognitive skills training, female specific programming, case management, community service, and drug testing. The program is operated, by contract, with Oriana House, a private, non-profit, community corrections and chemical dependency agency with 25 years of experience serving communities and with whom I was employed. As a case manager I held a case load of about fifteen clients, and worked with these individuals on personalized recovery plans. This is a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, care coordination, evaluation, and advocacy for options and services to meet an individual's comprehensive health needs through communication and available resources to promote quality, cost-effective outcomes. I acted as a liaison between the organization, the individual, and outside stakeholders such as the probation office or the court system.
