About Britt Gondolfi

Formerly a back waitress, waitress, bartender, scuba dive master, clinic counselor, preschool teacher, high school teacher, legal researcher, and community organizer turned children's book author. I once ran for Senate in Southeast Louisiana. My first published children's book launched on April 30th, 2024. This is my greatest accomplishment, second only to raising a compassionate child. My hope is to inspire parents and children to look up from their phones, put them down, and live in the real world.I will take the Louisiana Bar Exam in February 2025. I graduated in May 2023, but running for Senate took some time. After that, I aim to serve as a helpful attorney for family and friends and advocate for Mother Nature and individuals harmed by industrial pollution.I am currently honored to work as a community organizer for Bioneers's Rights of Nature project.

Current

New Orleans, Louisiana, United States

Across the country, citizens are fighting for Nature. Whether it is fighting deforestation, protesting a pipeline, or protecting a sacred site, citizens are defending the Natural world’s right to exist, persist, and thrive. The court system in America is a place for people to seek justice and stop harm, but many environmentalists leave the courts defeated.Unfortunately, our current legal system treats nature as property subject to man’s dominion.Corporations, ships, governments, and people have legal Rights, so why not nature? Why is it so hard to “speak for the trees” in legalese? For time immemorial, Tribal Nations have honored the rights of Nature by recognizing that we are Nature- and the natural world is our relative, not our possession. The movement to create laws recognizing Natue’s Rights and humans’ rights to defend Nature in court is a movement to Indigenize the law. The Bioneers has been fanning the flames of this movement since Ecuador was the first country to recognize the Rights of Nature in their Constitution- and we are more determined now than ever to Indigenize the law. If you want to meet virtually and strategize how the Rights of Nature movement can support your community’s natural world, email us at rightsofnature@bioneer.org

English Teacher

Bogalusa Louisiana

At Bogalusa high school I taught seven classes a day: two periods of Spanish one, four periods of English II, and one "Pride Period" where we focus on restorative practices and academic intervention. It is my passion to continually push for Restorative Practices. I fundraised for three of my students to attend the Bioneers conference in California. We worked on a project-based service learning to improve the culture and climate at our school.

Law Student

New Orleans, Louisiana, United States

I earned a JD with a focus on federal Indian law.

Learning Facilitator/ Aka "Teacher"

Grant Park Cooperative Preschool

Grant Park, Atlanta Georgia

I am an educator in the 1-2 and 2-3-year-old class at Atlanta’s first Reggio Emilia inspired cooperative preschool. My day revolves around creating music and magic (literally, in the form of sleight of hand tricks and figuratively in managing the day of 16 toddlers). It is an absolute honor to be a character in someone's childhood. I work every day to make sure that the children in my class are provided with rich experiences combining art, music, play, exploration, and the natural world. In addition to creating enriching experiences, I am also on the constant lookout social and emotional learning opportunities. I am a lifelong lover of learning and especially fascinated by the emerging conversations and resources on conscious discipline, restorative justice, non-violent communication, growth mindsets, and emotional intelligence. In addition to my classroom role, I also organize community education events and prepare professional development presentations for staff. I have a passion for cooperative learning environments where sharing and debate are celebrated vehicles of coming to new ideas and methodologies. The Reggio Emilia high image of the child has forever changed my approach to education. I operate from a children's rights standpoint. I do not "let" children have access to a multitude of creative mediums and play. I believe that children have a right to play, create, express themselves, and construct their knowledge in their own pace and way. My number one priority is to create a classroom culture of mindfulness, respect, and grace where mistakes are learning opportunities, creativity is valued, and growth is our daily bread.

Aug 2017 - Aug 2020

Facilitator

Atlanta, Georgia

I facilitate a cross-cultural program between students in Atlanta and Native American Students in California and New Mexico. The purpose is to teach environmental studies from the indigenous standpoint while connecting youth from different cultures with their concern for the planet. Students meet once a week to learn about a litany of topics related to Native American History, Environmentalism, racism, or Native American Culture. Once a month students gather to have an online virtual talking circle with Indigenous students from California and New Mexico. The experience culminates with four days at the Bioneers conference in San Rafael, California. Students also organize a monthly dinner theater pop up that features a thought and conversation provoking documentary. Students get entrepreneurial experience by planning an event, menu, and hosting a fundraiser. The purpose of the evenings is to practice the art of hosting a talking circle on a variety of social justice issues.

Mar 2017 - Aug 2019

Substitute Teacher

Greater Atlanta Area

Working in the Atlanta public school system is an absolute joy and a tremendous challenge. Creating a socially and emotionally safe and constructive environment is my daily number one priority. My ultimate aim is to find every possible way to avoid using any form of punitive social control. My greatest inspiration is Xavier University nun and education philosopher, Sister Grace Pilon, who created a pedagogy and classroom management system called, "The Workshop Way". She is my patron saint of always treating every student with the highest amount of regard for their dignity as a person.

Feb 2016 - May 2016

Editor-Not-In-Chief/ Facilitator/ Creator Of News From The Future

The New School, Atlanta Georgia

The purpose of the News Room From the Future is to create, design, and facilitate a “classroom project” wherein students operate an independent media company that predicts “the future everyone wants.” In the NewsRoom students create a futuristic/ philosophical/ prescription for humanity in the form of fictional (yet possibly prophetic) “news articles from the future”. Each creative writing session revolves around discussing a world problem in the most imaginative, solution oriented possible way. By un-tapping creative nature, empathetic spirit, and innate comedic brilliance of young humans they are able to freely rewrite humanity's future by creating the news they want to see. Through futuristic fiction independent journalists solve the world’s toughest problems/ heal the world’s ills, and by the power of their imagination and courage to create the headlines and stories they wish to manifest. We imagined therefore we became, a course in modern day miracles. “News that inspires hearts to heal the world.”

Aug 2015 - May 2016

Community Organizer, Creative Director

Ptown Project

Greater New Orleans Area

The goal of the P-town Project was to bridge a communication gap between two parts of the same neighborhood regarding an abandoned school building that was established during integration. The school's closure had a drastic impact on the sustainability, safety and community fabric of the black community. Many African American neighbors felt the closure was a conspiracy to destroy the neighborhood so that it could be more easily gentrified. The goal of the P-town project was for the building's use to be determined by the community that was harmed by the school's closure. Unfortunately, due to politics, corruption, racism, status quo systems, and a lack of compassion on the part of those who did not understand the civil rights ramifications of the school's closure, the school remains uninhabited and now privately owned. The P-town Project over the course of a year and a half got 550+ neighbors to agree, "Priestley Belongs to P-town," and that the school should be re-opened as a beacon of justice, education, and resilient community building. We facilitated talking circles, gatherings, and multiple meetings with neighbors with the agenda of seeing, ‘what the community wants.’ We realized the community wanted something that could be described as a 21st Century learning center that operated like a Benefit Corporation to support community education – for adults and children. Someone creatively labeled it a "Neighborhood University to Free People.” The three-story building would have been collectively owned and become a place where neighbors could buy & sell food, run small businesses, take classes on running a small business, teach a class on anything, preserve art and culture, etc. It was designed to be a stepping stone on the path toward community self-reliance and sustainability. The dream of this business model is still alive in many of the neighbors who volunteered and worked hard to investigate what innovative solution a community could create for a blight.

Oct 2014 - May 2015

Boat Manager

Koh Tao, Thailand

As boat master for Roctopus, I organized the daily dive locations, secured basic necessities for the boat, partnered customers with dive masters, looked after and cleaned equipment. My first priority was the safety and pleasure of all of our divers. I organized transportation from the shop to the dock, communicated with the captain, and made sure everyone got back on the boat. That last part was the most important responsibility. I also had the pleasure of leading dives.
