This role builds on my previous position, expanding my responsibility to lead and manage the proposal development process including both hands on proposal preparation and providing process guidance for proposals being developed by others. I am also responsible for the program management of all active projects within the organization's research portfolio, ensuring compliance with both Genome Canada's and other funding organizations project governance requirements.

My role with Genome Atlantic centres around support of existing and new genomics research projects in Atlantic Canada. Through relationships with project managers, researchers, and funding agencies, I aid in the creation and management of grant proposals, financial compliance, intellectual property documents, periodic technical/milestone reporting, and overall project governance. Leveraging my experience in grant funding and technology project management, I am able to help guide genomics researchers and industry adopters from the early stages of proposal writing through final dissemination of research results.

In this role I worked as an independent contractor for Dr. Tony Otley, managing the process to raise matching funds for a $25 million CIHR SPOR grant opportunity. This application focused on microbiome modulation through diet, antibiotics, probiotics, prebiotics, and fecal transplantation and sought to understand the impact of these variables on gastrointestinal and psychiatric disorders. Responsibilities included identifying sources of funds, communication with stakeholders to explore opportunities, preparation of documentation to meet application requirements, status tracking and reporting, and creation of project collateral to communicate objectives with academia, industry, and institutions. I was able to successfully exceed the fundraising target by over 18% within a compressed four-month timeline.

In this role I am responsible for the establishment and operation of a research and manufacturing facility for BioCycive Canada, a subsidiary of California based Globavir Biosciences Inc. Globavir Biosciences Inc is focused on bringing drugs and diagnostics to market for the treatment of infectious diseases, while BioCycive Canada focuses on the development of small molecules for oncology applications.

This role involves working closely with an extensive network of clients to identify the types of research projects being undertaken and areas of study targeted for future development. This information is then utilized to provide customized recommendations on programs and incentives to advance the project at all stages and to aide in application preparation where requested. A key responsibility in this role is to further develop the practice through the expansion of services to new clients/companies. This involves attending both research and industry focused events to enhance my network of contacts, as well as further strengthening existing relationships through face to face meetings or an informal coffee.

Conducted technical interviews, wrote detailed project reports, collected technical and financial documentation to support SR&ED claims in a variety of industries. This included specific projects involving the development of physical and computer modeling techniques for wind, sand and snow movement. Utilized CRA application papers, income tax act, and guidance documents to assemble accurate, supportable, quality SR&ED claims.Managed workload and assignments for four employees within the Hamilton office. Scheduled and coordinated technical and financial employee resources for over twenty five clients while maintaining a high level of client service.

Coordinated the installation and calibration of a surface inspection system on a galvanizing line to collect quantitative data on web quality. Responsible for determining peak image capture settings using variable camera angles, light intensity and roll contrasts. Utilized thresholding techniques to filter signals to attempt the characterization of textured surfaces and analyzed linescan data to identify unique defect profiles using such features as density and grayscale range. Worked closely with network resources to enable image data to be accessed from remote locations. Worked closely with McMaster Steel Research Centre and NSERC/Stelco Chair in Product Applications to support academic research and provide industrial research support for new and emerging technologies in hot dip coating. Identified eligible activities and completed required SR&ED documentation and annual tax credit submissions.

Conducted research on the deformation of polycrystalline magnesium. Observations of the microstructure, specifically the presence of twins, were made through a microscope mounted on an Instron machine utilizing digital video techniques. These results were used to characterize the formation, propagation, and annihilation of twins in magnesium and magnesium alloys.

Studied the corrosion performance of a wide range of nickel aluminum bronze alloy specimens submerged in stagnant and open ocean seawater for two years. Work involved systematic observation, photography, and labeling of specimens, corrosion product removal and cleaning, polishing, and detailed analysis of corrosion features such as pits or crevices.

Compiled environmental engineering reports for construction engineering department and utilized archived blueprints to determine areas of possible hydrocarbon contamination on military bases throughout Atlantic Canada.
