My educational pedagogy can be broken down into four main areas:Students deserve well-written, researched, and timely content.- Students should understand their place in the world and the impact they can have, for better and worse. This is why climate science, environmental stewardship, and racial justice were woven into every lesson possible in my AP and IB environmental classes as well as my 9th grade physical science course.- School do more than "inspire" students to become lifelong learners and thinkers, we need to also teach them how to do that. My curriculum is written to meet the intent of the NGSS, not just to memorize facts and data.- Integrating cross-discipline activities (especially language, art and math) engages more students while also improving their skills in each area.Blended Learning- Technology is a tool that I utilize to improve outcomes for students. Technology for outcomes, not for the sake of technology.- Innovating and improving the curriculum increases my ability to engage students with accessible, differentiated content.- Leveraging technology allows me to spend more time providing individualized instruction and facilitating group collaboration.Equity and Asset-Based Teaching- Equitable teaching practices were a daily lived agenda in my classroom. From the procedures, classroom culture, curriculum to the posters on my wall - it all was carefully chosen to be inclusive and help all students see themselves as scientists and learners.- Not only did I model equitable practices, I make it explicit so students learn to recognize inequities outside of the classroom.- Emphasizing my students' positive assets helped them see their potential.Cultivating Community- None of the above matters or can happen without strong relationships. - Daily SEL warm-ups allow me to prioritize students’ mental health and check in throughout class time.- "Community" includes all stakeholders involved, students, other teachers and family.
