Primary responsibility for designing, implementing, and assessing several courses and programs designed to help new freshmen and transfer students succeed at the university level, a major retention effort. Held a faculty appointment in Education and Sociology.For first-year students, designed and implemented several initiatives including several transition courses, the Student Mentor Team, and workshops for new students and parents. Many programs have been adopted by over 250 colleges and universities in the US, Canada and Australia. Designed and implemented all aspects of the Leadership Development Program that supported undergraduate and graduate students developing key leadership skills and professional development. Programs included the regional Leadership Conference, Annual Leadership Retreat, Leadership Certificate Program, and Leadership Education and Access Program (LEAP) for a handful of high potential students. Efforts were funded by a generous donation from Barry Posner, co-author of the Leadership Challenge, and Jackie Schmidt-Posner.Served on the Student Leadership Development Task Force to provide leadership to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs on the strategic planning for the Division of Student Affairs. Designed, implemented and currently coordinate the Student Resource Team, a cross-divisional and technology-based effort to provide advising and resources to all currently enrolled students.

Designed and implemented the Men’s and Women’s Programs, innovative mentoring programs for first-year students. Coordinated and taught UCSB’s university success course (INT/ED 20). Served as Chair for the Student Success Committee, which brought together representatives from the Academic, Housing, and Student Affairs divisions to work collaboratively to meet the needs of first-year students. Directed UCSB’s Leadership Program; including managed the Leadership Certificate Program, designed and implemented the Annual Student Leader Retreat, coordinated the Annual Student Leadership Conference, and supervised the budget. Annually coordinated the hiring, training and supervising of six prestigious student internships that allow students to gain paraprofessional experience in the field of higher education. Served as primary progammer for parents of new UCSB students through designing and implementing new and innovative educational programs. Served on the Chancellor’s Committee for Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Concerns. Designed, implemented, and coordinated the Ally Network and UCSB’s Safe Zone Program.
