Brittany works as a Media and Communications Officer for the South Australian Country Fire Service. The CFS is an all hazards agency responding to bushfire, building fire, road crash rescue and hazardous material spills. As part of this role, Brittany runs press conferences, writes media releases, informs the media on incidents and promotes the hard work of volunteers and staff.Working for the ABC as a journalist for the past five years, Brittany has developed exceptional communication skills across a wide variety of platforms and topics. As a reporter of news in South Australia, Brittany produced online, television, radio and social media stories for ABC News. During this time she has become a published author and won a number of awards, including a Walkley award as part of ABC News and ABC Regional and local teams.Her extensive reporting has included breaking news and emergency events including the Cudlee Creek, Kangaroo Island and Cherry Gardens bushfires; and continuous reporting of the coronavirus pandemic. Her journalistic skills also extend to sport, court and agricultural issues.Within that time, Brittany spent 18 months working and living in regional South Australia and understands the challenges and messaging needed to reach rural communities. In the ABC’s Renmark office, she presented and produced radio news bulletins, filmed (as a VJ) and edited television stories and monitored multiple social media accounts. In this role Brittany also became highly proficient in conducting solo live crosses as the journalist, camera operator, and technical operator.Throughout her five years, she has also worked in various departments of the ABC including for Landline, News, and children’s program Behind the News.
