I earned a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry studying hybrid photoelectrodes for solar energy storage applications. My work focused on using light and electricity to drive the reduction of carbon dioxide to fuel by coupling selective catalysts with light absorbing semiconductors to create hybrid photoelectrodes. These catalysts are sensitive to the local environment at the photoelectrode surface, which can be intentionally tuned to modulate reactivity. As a postdoc at Los Alamos National Lab I have pivoted to focus on molecular inorganic chemistry in the context of radionuclide separations. This has challenged me to develop my analytical chemistry skills and I have become proficient in inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and gamma spectroscopy. Research interests and expertise: Radiochemistry, Isotopes, Medical Isotopes, molecular chemistry, ICP-OES, gamma spectroscopy, electrochemistry, surface modification, solar fuels, metal complexes, molecular electrocatalysts, photoelectrodes, surface characterization, cyclic voltammetry, bulk electrolysis, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, UV-Vis and IR spectroelectrochemistry, air-free synthesis

Postdoctoral Research AssociateLos Alamos National Laboratory Aug 2023 - Present -
Graduate Student ResearcherUnc Chapel Hill Chemistry Dept Oct 2018 - Jun 2023In the lab of Dr. Jillian Dempsey I am anchoring molecules to electrode surfaces to elucidate the effect of the surface electric field on proton coupled electron transfer reactivity. This work has important implications for rational design of heterogeneous catalysts for CO2 reduction and other solar fuel reactions. -
Teaching AssistantUniversity Of North Carolina At Chapel Hill Aug 2018 - May 2019 -
Student ResearcherUniversity Of Virginia Jan 2017 - May 2018Charlottesville, Virginia AreaWorking in the lab of Dr. Charles W. Machan at the University of Virginia, I synthesized and electrochemically characterized novel electrocatalysts for solar fuels and fuel cell applications. My project examined the behavior of the catalyst Co(tbudhby)(py)(PF6) toward carbon dioxide and oxygen reduction through cyclic voltammetry, infrared spectroelectrochemistry, bulk electrolysis, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. -
Undergradaute Researcher, Reu ProgramVirginia Tech May 2016 - Aug 2016Blacksburg, VaI worked in the lab of Dr. Amanda Morris studying the electrocatalytic behavior of the metal organic framework PCN-223 for the oxygen reduction reaction for fuel cell applications. I synthesized thin films of PCN-223 on fluorine-doped tin oxide to act as a heterogeneous catalyst for oxygen reduction. I also performed cyclic voltammetry and rotating ring disk electrode voltammetry to electrochamically characterize the catalytic behavior of PCN-223. This work was presented at a poster session at the SERMACS conference in October 2016. I was second author on a publication on this work. -
Student Research AssistantUniversity Of Virginia Aug 2015 - May 2016Charlottesville, Virginia AreaI worked in the lab of Dr. Ian Harrision studying the reactivity of branched alkanes on Pt-111 in ultrahigh vacuum conditions. -
Aspiring Summer Scientist Research InternGeorge Mason University Jun 2015 - Aug 2015Manassas, VirginiaWorked in the lab of Dr. Barney Bishop at George Mason University studying the effect of different compositions of lipids in lipid coated hydrogel particles on the number and identity of cationic antimicrobial peptides isolated by the particles from alligator plasma. I synthesized the particles and performed the harvest of the peptides and analyzed the mass spectrometry results. This work was presented at a poster session for all Aspiring Summer Scientist Interns at the end of the summer program.
