The Fellowship is designed to provide early education and health professionals from across the state with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, engage with thought-leaders and policymakers to advance quality early learning and health, and take steps to create state-, local-, and community-level change for young children in Ohio.Facilitated an intensive project to address Race and Rural Equity within early care and education (ECE) spaces within Ohio's urban, rural and Appalachian regions. Our project specifically sought to examine Race & Place as a moderator of quality within ECE centers, staffing, teacher training and preparation, and program evaluation. The final project presented parent responses that called for more cultural humility as a quality factor within ECE centers. Staff diversity and representation, cultural competency, and professional trainings for cultural humility would be important indicators of quality for parents. Our final advocacy strategy called for increased trainings required for ECE professional development for administrators and classroom staff within Ohio Department of Job & Family Services' Step Up To Quality system. We proposed a coordinated requirement of credit hours educating on race and rural equity aligned with Step Up To Quality's tiered rating system, with between 2.5-3 training hours required for site and individual licensure to advance equity for Ohio's youngest children.
