I study the mitotic defects of the adolescent bone cancer, Ewing Sarcoma through the fusion protein EWS/FLI1 leading to malignant transformation. We use zebrafish as the animal model to understand the mechanism, using knockdown of EWS and expression of EWS/FLI1 leading to tumor growth. My role is to perform various tests and procedures including DNA purification, Western blots, PCR, cell cultures, immunocytochemistry, and immunohistochemistry.

As a suite ambassador in the Ward Family Scholarship suites, I was responsible for the well-being of fifteen different suite holders. Some of the duties included finding different requests for the holders to assure in the comfort during their football game experience. This position consisted of constant interaction with a variety of personality types, all the while making sure that each and every person had the best experience possible.

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee is designed to make the experience of a student-athlete at the University of Kansas as beneficial to the local community as possible. All student athletes are invited to join, but only a select group of ten students are chosen for the executive board. As a member of this board, I was in charge of coordinating events for students to interact with the community in a positive manner. Examples of such activities include reading to elementary schools, hosting special olympics events, canned food drives, as well as inter-athletics activities to unite all student athletes.

I spent the summer abroad in Paris, France studying French and immersing myself in the culture. Through this experience I gained a great deal of knowledge on how to interact with people from different cultures, as well as make myself comfortable in a strange environment.
