During the summer of 2014, I completed an internship with TS Designs, a wholesale t-shirt manufacturing company which sells largely to local, environmentally and socially-conscious businesses and organizations. My internship focused on assessing a wide array of the company's procedures in order to make improvements to increase productivity and minimize waste. Production procedures were reviewed and revised to cut down on water consumption, safety precautions and raw material testing procedures were also implemented. Daily responsibilities included: weighing goods and raw materials for daily production, mixing reactive dyes according to the production schedule, managing incoming materials, running small sample trials, and assisting with inspections of the finished product. I was also responsible for two larger scale projects, which included developing training videos outlining the company's entire production process: from screen printing the design on goods, preparation of goods, raw materials, and dyes, raw material testing and finished product testing. This required an in depth, detailed understanding of the company's entire production process. I also worked on a natural dye project, which included developing a production procedure for dyeing polyester dresses with natural dyes, running sample trials, running two batches of production (1 yellow, 1 coral), and overseeing quality control, inspections, and shipping.
