The Center for Justice Innovation is a nonprofit that seeks to create a more humane justice system by performing original research and helping justice system stakeholders launch reforms across the world. The Gender and Family Justice Team focuses on issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. As associate director, I provide technical assistance to communities and jurisdictions across the country interested in enhancing their response to domestic violence, human trafficking, and abusive partner intervention; design and deliver national, local, and distance-based trainings for justice-system and community-based practitioners; oversee project management of grant deliverables on several federal and local projects; prepare fact sheets and grant proposals; and collaborate on the development of training and program curricula.

The Workplace Mentoring Program at Big Brothers Big Sisters matches volunteers from companies across the city in one-on-one mentoring relationships with high school students, and offers structured programming related to college and workplace readiness. As an associate program manager, I managed six mentoring programs at five major corporations, monitored mentor relationships for clinical and safety issues, designed and implemented curricula and group activities, and facilitated volunteer trainings and biweekly program meetings on topics such as public speaking, team-building, career exploration, and college creation.

The Exploitation Intervention Project (EIP) is a specialized unit at the Legal Aid Society dedicated to providing direct legal representation and holistic services to individuals charged with prostitution-related offenses and survivors of trafficking facing prosecution for other offenses in New York City. As a social work intern, I used a trauma-informed lens to engage clients and connect them to both mandated and voluntary services, compose advocacy letters on behalf of clients charged with misdemeanors and trauma narrative reports to mitigate client felony charges. Additionally, I provided supportive counseling and crisis intervention when necessary.

The Cinema School is a public high school in the Bronx that provides students with a liberal arts education that infuses the art of filmmaking into its curriculum. I provided weekly individual and group counseling to 14-20 12th grade students addressing a range of presenting problems and the transition to postsecondary life. I implemented clinical interventions grounded in positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing techniques. Additionally, I co-facilitated the school’s peer mentoring program and developed a resource guide of individual and group counseling activities on topics ranging from academic motivation to mindfulness.

Children's Rights is a nonprofit that uses the legal system to compel systemic reform in child welfare systems across the country on behalf of abused and neglected foster children. As a paralegal, I oversaw case management and litigation support for four federal civil rights lawsuits. I conducted factual and stakeholder research and analyzed child welfare reports and data to determine if states complied with federal and state standards. Additionally, I coordinated the undergraduate internship program and assisted in the hiring, training, and mentoring of new paralegals.

The Rhode Island Senate Policy Office provides policy and research support for Rhode Island Senate leadership. As a policy intern, I performed legal and legislative research and composed policy recommendations and issue briefs on topics related to child welfare and mental health.
