About Brittany G.

As a GEM Fellow and PhD student in Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh, I am balancing two significant research endeavors. At EMD Electronics, I am concentrating on data engineering and machine learning, where I enhance legacy data systems, particularly in cheminformatics, to accelerate research outcomes. Simultaneously, I work at the Biorobotics Lab, where my focus is on applying advanced signal processing techniques to improve remote medical alert systems, particularly for a project aimed at supporting chronic lung patients with a remote artificial lung.I recently earned my Master's degree in Automated Science at the School of Computer Science within Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). CMU designated me a GEM Fellow and awarded me a full scholarship with stipend for my program. This propelled the generation of my startup with resources like GEM i4 in connection with the NSF and the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship at CMU.While at CMU, I joined the Biorobotics Lab under Howie Choset. I worked closely under Lu Li and Keith Cook on a project giving chronic lung patients the ability to have remote care in their home. In this project I worked to enhance remote monitoring technology by building a system model capable of simulating data for the complete circuit. I built models capable of simulating advanced clinical outcomes which I used to build alerts for life-threatening situations. I have an undergraduate degree in Chemical Biology from the University of California at Berkeley. Upon entering Berkeley, I was awarded the George A. Miller's Scholarship. I used the award to bring hands-on science experiments to high school students at Upward Bound Math and Science. While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I led two organic synthesis projects under Jeffrey R. Long. My first project concentrated on synthesizing an organometallic catalyst. My second project focused on polyaromatic frameworks aimed at desalination.I have previous internship experience with in-vitro lab work in genomics, bioinformatics, and fungicide resistance. My in-vivo internship experience was based on the molecular neuroscience of morphine addiction, where I was awarded the title of National Institute of Health Fellow.
