HiveDB is a project for massively scaling MySQL databases begun in late 2006 by myself, Justin McCarthy, Andy Likuski and Jeremy Cole. Our goal was to build a massively horizontally scalable database with data-aware sharding that could run on commodity hardware. We also integrated HiveDB with the Hibernate shards project to provide an easy to use ORM layer.
