About Britte Sloothaak

Britte Sloothaak (b. 1984) is an art historian, curator and doctoral researcher affiliated with TU/e's Curatorial Research Collective. In her projects she explores interdisciplinary perspectives on the construction of knowledge in Dutch museums of modern and contemporary art, with a special interest in the known and unknown shared histories of Indonesia and the Netherlands. She developed this interest while doing archival research, writing acquisition proposals and curating exhibitions for the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, including When Things are Beings (2022-2023, co-curated with Amanda Pinatih) and In the Presence of Absence (2020-2021, co-curated with Fadwa Naamna). In addition to her work as a researcher, she is responsible for the TU/e Art Collection, for which she developed a new line of commissioned artworks. The first part of this iteration is Loom Room, a 9 meter high textile installation by Hella Jongerius in a robust modernist building on the campus that originally housed the first computer center of the technical university, and is now housing the Eindhoven Artificial Intelligence Systems Institute (EAISI). She teaches, lectures and writes on various occasions, for example for the Leiden University. She has a background in art and culture sciences (Erasmus University of Rotterdam), modern and contemporary art (VU University Amsterdam) and museum curating (VU University and University of Amsterdam).
