About Brittany Knight, Phd

A trained basic scientist with expertise in wound healing, glial biology, and biomaterial drug delivery systems for pain management. I am the Director of Operations for the United States Association for the Study of Pain, US Chapter of IASP. This role fosters career development in pain research for early, mid, and late-career professionals. In my free time, I am the Regional Director for Connecticut's JSHS which provides a platform for fostering STEM research and education at the high school level. JSHS is a collaborative program that the Department of Defense supports. I also co-direct Beyond the PhD, a group that organizes career development activities for STEM students to learn about their career options in academia and beyond.

    This program is run out of the CT AHEC office located at the University of Connecticut Health Center. JSHS is a collaborative program with the US Department of Defense to promote STEM research and education in students grades 9-12. Students representing local high schools in the CT area present their research (oral, poster, and exhibition) and can win scholarship money. Highest competitors are given the opportunity to advance to nationals for competition. 2022 competition will be held March 5th virtually.

    Beyond the PhD is a volunteer-based group of graduate students and early career professionals to support career development in STEM by providing a Career Discovery seminar series that features hot careers include those that require and do not require graduate training, an annual networking event among career professionals and trainees, as well as career development workshops put on by professionals as well as our Team.
