As an employee at the Nordstrom Rack, I strived to give customers my full attention; I tried to meet their needs by asking questions to get a better understanding of what they were looking for, and so I could give them the best service possible. As a Sales Associate I developed different skills while working with different employees and managers each day. I feel this position formed me into a more well-rounded employee, because I could assist in every department as needed. My day consisted of assisting customers, and creating eye catching displays. Our goal as a store was to make the customers feel welcome and important so they would return in the future. On a daily basis, I would interact with customers by offering to check them out on the spot at their convenience, so they wouldn’t have to wait in line; or just by saying hi to let them know that they are important and we appreciate their business.

As a Red Mango crew member, my main goal was to assist customers with their checkout process while maintaining a balanced cash drawer. I offered them Red Mango loyalty cards so they could get the perks that it offered. I also made sure customers had an enjoyable experience by keeping the store clean and presentable at all times. One of my daily tasks also included maintaining the yogurt machines, and preparing smoothies and fruit for the topping bar.

After multiple auditions and competing against 1,600 kids I was cast for thirteen episodes of a kids cooking show on PBS called The Jr. Cuisine Cooking Show. I was one of the five main cast members who appeared on every episode, I dedicated almost two year to practicing and filming each episode. I learned to prepare new recipes and interact with professional chefs. Mise en place sounded like a made-up word when I first heard it, but now that I’m cooking for myself I really understand having everything ready before starting my recipe makes cooking so much easier. Being on the show I had to participate in a lot of networking events, which benefited my public speaking abilities. Looking back on this experience I think I have become a more independent and well rounded individual. The show taught me discipline, dedication, and the skill of teamwork.
