Providing an executive support role to the Stock Show’s president and general manager, my role is similar to that of a utility player – I’m called to serve in a variety of roles at any given time. Some of these include: Volunteer Coordination – recruitment, retention and support: Safety Committee; Ambassadors; Exhibitor Greeting Committee; Calf Scramble Committee, etc. Venue Sanitation: recycling and composting programs; trash removal; clean-up crew hiring, supervision and operation; infectious disease mitigation. Venue Safety and Risk Management: development and implement Stock Show’s safety program for venue and employees; manage Stock Show’s insurance needs. Legal: coordinate with attorneys assisting Stock Show on various projects including trademarks, employment matters, litigation and dispute resolution, contracts, code compliance, etc. Vendor and Sponsor Contracts: negotiate with vendors and sponsors on contract verbiage to protect the Stock Show’s interests.Issues Management: monitor media and other information outlets for on specific issues and developments potentially affecting Stock Show namely in the areas of animal welfare, infectious disease outbreaks, animal diseases, etc. Communications: public outreach; critical and special writing assignments.
Managed daily operations of 13,000 member trade association with $6 million budget and 120 full and part-time employees. Departments included law enforcement; cattle market inspection and identification programs; government and public affairs; publications; insurance services; education; and administration. Primary spokesman for association to media, industry and government. Budgeting and financial management for association and Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Insurances Services, Corp. Crisis communication - managed association's crisis communication response during 2003 U.S. mad cow crisis serving as spokesperson with local, state and national print and broadcast media.Strategic Planning - coordinated the development, and implementation, of the association’s plans.Convention and meeting planning. Wrote extensively for association's monthly magazine, The Cattleman.
